Overview:
The Assistant Crane Operator supports safe, efficient lifting operations by assisting the Crane Operator with pre-use checks, rigging activities, communication signals, and general deck duties. This role requires strong awareness of safety procedures, the ability to work under pressure, and hands-on experience in rigging and deck operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Crane Operator during lifting operations, ensuring safe and accurate execution of all lifts.

  • Conduct pre-use and post-use inspections of lifting equipment, slings, shackles, and other rigging gear.

  • Perform routine checks on crane components and report any faults or irregularities immediately.

  • Prepare, organize, and maintain all rigging equipment for daily operations.

  • Provide correct hand signals and radio communication to support smooth and safe crane movements.

  • Assist with load securing, slinging, and rigging according to operational requirements and safety guidelines.

  • Maintain housekeeping in crane areas and on deck to ensure a clean and hazard-free work environment.

  • Support lifting operations during heavy-lift activities and critical operations.

  • Follow all company safety procedures, permit-to-work systems, and operational guidelines.

  • Collaborate with deck crew and supervisors to ensure efficient workflow and compliance with lifting plans.

Requirements:

Experience:

  • 3-5 years experience in rigging, lifting, or deck operations (offshore or industrial environment preferred).

  • Hands-on experience with rigging tools, load handling, and lifting equipment inspections.

Qualifications & Certifications:

  • Valid Rigging Certificate (essential).

  • Banksman/Slinger certification (advantageous).

  • Offshore survival, medical, and safety certifications (if applicable to the role).

Education:

  • Technical certificate in lifting, rigging, or mechanical/technical fields (preferred).

  • Additional lifting or crane-related training is an advantage.

Competencies:

  • Strong understanding of lifting procedures, load charts, and safety standards.

  • Good communication skills (hand signals and radio).

  • Ability to work in a team and follow instructions precisely.

  • High level of situational awareness and commitment to safety.

  • Physically fit to perform demanding tasks.
